Outdoor Systems

Spartan Athletic Co. supplies outdoor basketball systems to school athletic departments, municipal parks and recreation programs, and sports facility operators. Our outdoor system inventory includes 4′ and 5′ gooseneck configurations with breakaway, standard, and lifetime rim options, along with vertical post systems and aluminum fan backboards for facilities requiring component-level procurement. All systems are designed for permanent in-ground installation on asphalt and concrete court surfaces. Purchase orders and tax-exempt procurement are supported.

Outdoor Basketball Systems — Buyer's Guide

Gooseneck System Configurations

Gooseneck outdoor basketball systems position the backboard and rim beyond the post using a curved extension arm, keeping the post outside the playing area and providing a clear approach to the basket. Systems are available in 4-foot and 5-foot overhang configurations — the overhang measurement refers to the horizontal distance from the post centerline to the face of the backboard. A 4-foot overhang is appropriate for most standard court layouts; a 5-foot overhang provides additional clearance for facilities where post placement relative to the baseline requires more separation between the post and the playing surface.

Rim Options — Breakaway, Standard, and Lifetime

Each gooseneck configuration is available with three rim options. Standard rims are fixed-mount and appropriate for recreational and lower-intensity use where breakaway flex is not required. Breakaway rims use a spring-loaded flex mechanism that absorbs the force of aggressive play and dunking, reducing structural stress on the backboard mounting hardware over time — the recommended choice for competitive scholastic and municipal courts with heavy use. Lifetime rims provide an extended-duty construction rated for the highest-intensity use environments where standard breakaway rims would require more frequent replacement.

Net Options — Nylon and Chain

Nylon nets are standard for indoor and sheltered outdoor courts. Chain nets are the preferred option for unsheltered outdoor municipal courts where fabric nets deteriorate quickly from UV exposure, precipitation, and vandalism. Chain nets require no seasonal replacement and are the lower long-term maintenance option for parks and recreation facilities that cannot monitor net condition on a regular basis.

Backboards and Vertical Systems

The aluminum fan backboard is available for facilities sourcing a replacement backboard or building a custom post-and-backboard installation. Fan-shaped backboards are the standard configuration for outdoor recreational courts. The outdoor vertical basketball system mounts the backboard and rim directly to the post without a gooseneck extension arm, providing a lower-cost permanent installation option for facilities where overhang clearance is not a constraint.
