Standard rubber bases are the most common base type across youth, recreational, and scholastic programs — durable, low-maintenance, and compatible with standard ground anchor systems. Shock-absorbing bases use a breakaway release mechanism that reduces slide-related foot and ankle injuries and are required or strongly recommended at many scholastic competition levels. Major League bases are built to professional specification for programs that require the highest-grade base construction for varsity or invitational competition.
The MacGregor Magnetic Super Base uses a magnetic attachment system that holds the base firmly in place during play but allows clean release on hard slides, providing an injury-reduction alternative to traditional anchor-and-peg systems. The 5-piece throw-down base set provides a portable field setup solution for programs using multi-use athletic surfaces where permanent anchor installation is not possible.
Double first bases provide a separate safety bag in foul territory for the batter-runner, reducing collision risk between the fielder and runner at the bag. They are required in most softball leagues and recommended for youth baseball programs where first base collision is a concern. Available in recreational, premium, and standard configurations — recreational models are suitable for lower-intensity youth play, while premium models provide a more durable construction for programs with heavy use across multiple seasons.
Rubber home plates are the standard for most youth and scholastic programs, providing a durable surface that holds position with standard ground hardware. The waffle-style in-ground home plate uses an open-bottom grid construction that allows the plate to sit flush with the surrounding clay surface while providing drainage and reducing the buildup of compacted material beneath the plate. Wood-filled home plates provide additional weight and stability for facilities where standard rubber plates shift during heavy play. The Major League home plate is built to professional specification for programs requiring the highest grade of competition equipment.
The rubber home plate extension adds a batter's box extension to the existing home plate for programs running youth divisions where a wider plate surface is required by local rule.
Standard pitcher's rubbers mount permanently with ground anchors and are the correct choice for dedicated single-age-group mounds. The 4-way pitcher's rubber can be rotated periodically to distribute wear evenly across all four edges, extending the useful life of the rubber significantly compared to fixed-orientation plates. The step-down rubber provides a tapered front edge that reduces trip hazard for pitchers whose follow-through carries their foot across the front of the rubber.
Removable pitcher's plates use an anchor-and-plug system that allows the rubber to be extracted during field maintenance or when the mound serves multiple age groups pitching from different distances. The professional removable pitching rubber provides the same removable functionality in a heavier-duty construction suited for high-use varsity and collegiate mounds. End-spiked rubbers use spike anchors driven into the mound clay rather than a separate ground anchor sleeve — a practical option for facilities where the mound clay depth makes traditional anchor installation difficult.
Standard ground anchors are sold in sets of three for a complete base installation at first, second, and third base. Base plugs cap the open anchor sleeve when bases are removed, keeping the anchor clear of infield clay and preventing the recessed opening from creating a trip or foot-catch hazard during non-game use. Big League base plugs are available for facilities using larger-diameter anchor systems. Confirm anchor diameter against your existing sleeve before ordering replacement plugs.
